Win-Win Kung Fu Culture Center

Win-Win Kung Fu Culture Center was founded in October 2009 by director Hesheng Bao, PhD, and has been dedicated to promoting authentic Chinese martial arts in the United States.

All the instructors (masters) in Win-Win Kung Fu were recruited from the top Chinese martial arts schools and teams in China. They not only have won all kinds of national and international championships and tournaments but also are experienced in teaching Wushu. Since its grand opening, over 200 local practitioners have been trained in the Win-Win Kung Fu. Many of them have competed and won high-standard international Chinese martial arts championships and tournaments in the U.S. and abroad.

In recent years, Win-Win Kung Fu has brought up a number of extraordinary Wushu athletes, including six U.S. Traditional Wushu Team members, one world Tai Chi champion, over forty gold medals in various regional competitions.

We offer instruction in traditional Kung Fu, contemporary Wushu, self-defense, Tai Chi and Qigong to students of all ages and levels.

FAQs

  • Yes, definitely. At Win-Win Kung Fu, one of our focuses is to ensure that our students are in great physical condition. Our Beginning, Intermediate and Advanced classes all include flexibility, strength and conditioning elements, which creates a balanced approach to better health and longevity. We even have Kung Fu Conditioning in our curriculum to have intense physical training. Therefore, we have had numerous students lose anywhere from 10 to 20 pounds during their first three months training with us.

  • Yes. Classes are small. New students are introduced to our routine and shown how to perform techniques on a basic level. Win-Win masters have been doing a good job with uniquely efficient methods to bring new students up to speed. Besides, everyone can progress at their own pace.

  • Yes! We encourage you to try a class at no charge and to ask questions. Check our class schedule, find the class you are interested and show up to try a free class.

  • Skills such as balance, strength, speed, flexibility, and endurance apply to most martial arts. We will build on your strengths and improve the areas that may need some extra work. If you studied another martial art, you may notice similarities. This is because Kung Fu is considered the grandfather of all martial arts because many martial arts can trace their lineage back to one or more Kung Fu styles.

  • First, come prepared. Wear loose, comfortable clothing (pants not shorts) and clean lightweight thin sole athletic shoes. We also recommend a bottle of water.

Some of our classes have a mix of beginner and advanced students and Win-Win masters will walk and talk you through our warm-ups and routines. Don’t worry if you don’t catch on the first, second, or twenty-fourth time. We’ve all been there.

Class time typically consists of warm-ups and stretching followed by combo drills, and common forms, as well as individual practice.

  • Yes, we have had numerous students with anxiety issue train and experience a reduction on how anxiety negatively affects their lives. One of the reasons Kung Fu training helps with anxiety is that it requires you to be in the moment. Any time we suffer from anxiety, we are not in the moment. Another reason is that certain styles of Kung Fu like Tai Chi, focus on more slow, gentle movement and breathing techniques – both of which help with your relaxation and thus contribute to reducing anxiety. In addition, the confidence you gain from training in Kung Fu impacts other areas in your life and empowers you to engage in the challenges you encounter with less anxiety. There have been research results from The Mayo Clinic contributing to this conclusion, making, practicing Tai Chi a common suggestion by doctors to manage stress and anxiety.

  • Yes. There are a number of ways that training Martial Arts or Kung Fu help children become more confident. First, they learn techniques they can use to defend themselves against bullies, which empowers them to stand up for themselves. Second, the challenge of learning the techniques and meeting that challenge helps to build their confidence to engage in challenges in their everyday lives.

  • Yes. Courtesy and respect are two qualities that we focus teaching our youth students starting with their very first class. Our youth students learn how to be polite with each other, and respect themselves, their instructors, their parents and grandparents and their teachers. This is reinforced by their training in every class, and it eventually becomes a habit that will help them be more successful in their lives.

  • Yes. Training Kung Fu with us will help your child to develop better focus and more discipline. We have had numerous youth students with focus and discipline challenges who improve their performance at school significantly, as well as treat their teachers and parents with more courtesy and respect. Being disciplined also involves self-control. One of the goals of training Kung Fu is to develop more self-control over our mind, body, and emotions. Students often experience different mental and emotional challenges during their training. We help them work through those challenges and get to the other side so they learn that their mental and emotional challenges do not have to rule their life or stop them from achieving their goals. Through consistent training, we become less at the effect of our emotions, mood swings or negative self-talk, and develop the discipline to not act out or take out our frustrations on ourselves or others. It also helps us to focus more on meaningful goals that take longer to attain, than get distracted with short term gratifications.
